How Age is Calculated
Calculating exact age involves finding the difference between the Date of Birth (DOB) and the current date (or a specified date). While it seems simple, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years makes it non-trivial.
Calculation Logic
1. Calculate the difference in days between DOB and target date.
2. If the current day is less than the birth day, borrow days from the previous month and subtract 1 from the month difference.
3. If the current month is less than the birth month (after borrowing), borrow 12 months and subtract 1 from the year difference.
4. The result is your exact age in Years, Months, and Days.
Leap Years Explained
A leap year occurs every 4 years and has 366 days instead of 365. A year is a leap year if it's divisible by 4, except for century years, which must be divisible by 400. This means the year 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not. Our calculator accounts for leap years to give you the precise number of days you've lived.
